The 10 Commandments of Triathlon

To assure a safe and fun event for you & your fellow triathletes, please adhere to the following:

1. Read the information on this web site in its entirety.

2. Listen to the Course Talk carefully, and make sure to get answers to all your race-related questions.

3. Get body marked on Friday or Saturday at the Expo. There will be long lines on race morning.

4. Arrive at the transition area early! That means 4:15am-5:10am. If you get there late, you may be shut out & prevented from racing. Allow lots of time for traffic, parking, getting to the site and getting your bike into transition.

5. Remember to bring along (2) water bottles already filled for the bike. There will not be water stations on the bike course. Bring water to drink on the way to the race & before the race.

6. The transition area closes at 5:45am & re-opens at approximately 11:00am (after the last age group participant is out on the run), regardless of which wave you're in. Do not leave anything in transition that you'll need after you finish the race. For reasons of safety and fairness we will be enforcing this rule strictly. You need to, adjust your travel, work or social plans around these times before race day.

7. Take every opportunity to hydrate during the race. Do not rely on thirst to tell you when to drink. While biking, do not toss empty water bottles on the course. If you would like a second water bottle, you will need to add a second bottle-cage to your bike. Water bottles on the road are a safety hazard.

8. If you get into trouble in the swim roll onto your back and raise an arm in the air. If you experience mechanical difficulties during the bike carefully pull over to the left so as not to endanger other athletes. Then pull your bike up to the median or the west side of Lake Shore Drive and wait for a sag vehicle. Repairs should not be made on the course unless you are out of the bicycle lanes.

9. Keep to the LEFT at all times on the bike course unless in the immediate act of passing. Always pass on the RIGHT and then move immediately back to the left lane once you are sure you have safely cleared the cyclist you were passing. Use your voice to call out to people that you are passing and look over your shoulder before making a passing move. NO WALKMAN’S, DISCMAN'S or IPODS ON THE BIKE OR RUN COURSE!!!

10. After finishing be respectful of other athletes in the race. Please treat other athletes at least as well as you would like to be treated.

Have fun, be organized and stay safe.
