Questions About The Bike

Are there any aid stations on the Bike Course?
No. Please come to the race with a full water bottle. There will be water available for filling up your water bottle on the South end of the Transition area.

Will there be Bike Techs available for assistance on race day?
Yes.  Bike Techs will be located at the north and sound ends of the Transition Area.

If I break down on the Bike Course will there be any assistance offered?
Yes. There will be a van sag vehicle that will be circling the course throughout the race that will pick you up and return you to the transition area. If you break down, please go to the side of the road (off the course) and inform a course marshal or policeman. They will assist you in locating the sag vehicle.

Can I use a Mountain Bike in the non-mountain bike Sprint division or in the international division?
Yes, you may use a mountain bike in the International division or in the Sprint non-mountain bike division. The Village Cycle Mountain Bike Division is a competition category. It is not mandatory that you enter this division even if you are going to be riding a mountain bike.

For any questions or additional information about the Village Cycle Mountain Bike DIvision, please contact Registration@CapriEvents.com.

What is the Village Cycle Mountain Bike Division?
Unique to the Chicago Triathlon, athletes in the Sprint and International distance events have the option of competing in the Village Cycle Mountain BIke Division. Participants who register specifically for the Village Cycle Mountain BIke Division will have the opportunity  to compete exclusively with other mountain bike athletes. The Village Cycle Mountain Bike Division will go off in waves within the Sprint and International Distance Competitions and have it's own set of awards for the top three overall male and female finishers for each distance. To enter in this division, you must elect it while submitting your registration for the event.

For any questions or additional information about the Village Cycle Mountain Bike DIvision, please contact Registration@CapriEvents.com.

Does the Village Cycle Mountain Bike Division go in a separate wave?
Yes, there will be a separate wave for the Village Cycle Mountain Bike Division in both the Sprint and International Distance Events.

Can I use a tandem or recumbent bike in the race?
No.

What thickness do my bike tires need to be in order to be eligible to compete in the mountain bike division?
1.75 inches. You cannot compete in the Village Cycle Mountain Bike Division if your tires are smaller than this. Your tires may be smooth, with a tread or be knobby.

Do I have to get my bike inspected?
No, but it is highly recommended. Many people experience technical problems on race day that could have been easily avoided if the bike had been inspected prior to the race. In order to avoid disappointment on race day we urge all competitors to have their bikes inspected no more than 3 weeks prior to the event. Please contact your local bike shop for additional information. Free bike inspections are available at bike shops throughout Chicagoland. Click HERE for a list of the participating dealers.
