Swim [view
map]
International Distance-1.5K • Sprint Distance-.75K
The swim takes place in the Monroe Street Harbor.
The start line for both the Sprint and International distance
events is 925
Yards south of the Chicago Yacht Club, with the finish
line for both events 100 yards south of the Chicago Yacht Club.
The swimmers in the Sprint head directly north, parallel
with the
lake wall and exit 100 yards south of the Yacht Club. The swimmers
in the International distance begin the race by swimming south,
380 yards, go around a buoy, and then swim north to the exit,
100 yards south of the Yacht Club. The Pros
swim the same International distance course as the age group
athletes.
Transition 1: After exiting the water the swimmers
run north along the lakeside path for approximately 450 yards.
The transition is located in the park on the grass reserve, south
of Randolph Street and east of Lake Shore Drive. Following the
swim, athletes enter transition on the south end at the Swim
In gate and exit on the north end (adjacent to Randolph
St.) at the Bike Out gate to start the bike.
The transition area is fully fenced with security at each of
the exit and entrance gates.

International Distance-40K • Sprint Distance-22K
Athletes exit transition at Bike Out,
mount their bikes and enter Lake Shore Drive using the on-ramp
at Randolph Street. Riders head north in the northbound inner
two lanes (coned off from vehicle lanes). The riders continue
on Lake Shore Drive until the turnaround near Foster where they
make a 180 degree turn across the median and then return south
on the inner two lanes.
At Chicago Avenue, the sprint distance athletes continue south
to the bike finish while the international distance athletes
make a 180 degree turn to complete a second lap on Lake Shore
Drive. Riders complete the bike leg by making a 180 degree turn
onto the southbound Randolph entrance ramp to Randolph Street,
and turning right onto Randolph and proceeding to the Bike
In transition gate.
Transition 2: The entry (Bike In)
to the transition is at Randolph Street, adjacent to and on the
right of Bike Out. Riders dismount at the gate,
and then run or walk their bikes to their place on their bike
rack. The flow for transition is north to south with the Run
Out gate slightly west of the Swim In gate.

[view map]:
International Distance-10K • Sprint Distance-5K
Age Group runners (both Sprint and Interational) exit the transition
area at the Run Out gate at the south end of
the transition and go south on the middle (asphalt) sidewalk/path.
At Buckingham Fountain, runners continue on the grass until they
rejoin the asphalt path. Runners then continue on this path until
they reach the Museum campus. The runners then turn left and
run along the path behind the Shedd Aquarium. They will then
make a left onto the sidewalk on the north side of Solidarity
Drive and run east along the sidewalk, towards the Adler Planetarium.
Runners then make a right turn and pass in front of the planetarium
where they make an immediate right and head west on the sidewalk
on the south side of Solidarity Drive.
Continuation of the Sprint 5K Run:
When the runners reach the intersection of the sidewalk and the
bike path, they make a left (south) and run a short distance
on the lakefront path. Runners then make a 180 degree turn, heading
north on a parallel course across Solidarity Drive, around the
Aqaurium keeping to the left of the oncoming runners on the same
path. After rounding the Aquarium, the runners go west through
the Lake Shore Drive underpass to Columbus where they enter the
street, turn right and run north to the finish line on Columbus.
Continuation of the International 10K Run:
When the runners reach the intersection of the sidewalk
and the bike path, they make a left (south) and run
south on the lakefront path
closest to Burnham Harbor. They continue south on the
path to approximately a half mile south of McCormick Place where
they make a 180 degree turn and then head north, returning on
a parallel course. After crossing Solidarity, the runners round
the Aquarium, keeping to the left of the oncoming runners on
the same path and go west through the Lake Shore Drive underpass
to Columbus where they enter the street, turn right and run north
to the finish line on Columbus.
SPECIAL
NOTE: If for any reason you are unable to complete the event,
you must either:
a)
Turn in your chip at transition when you collect
your gear, or
b) at
the timing tent located at the finish line.
It
is mandatory that you turn in your chip so we will have
a record
that you are safe and off the course. If you own
your chip, it is important that you report in so we will
know
that you are
safe.
